Many times people exercise and they either overexert themselves or train through injuries that then end up becoming subacute or chronic. Exercise is cornerstone in our general health and well being and is strongly advocated in all our patients. We find that people who exercise end up recovering quicker and there treatment times tend to be shorter. However finding the balance between too much exercise and burn out is based on the patients movement patterns, how they feel and there output performance.
Each sport comes with its own set of injuries and common ailments that patrons tend to exhibit, they are very specific to the overuse action that the sport requires and this is where careful evaluation is required by the treating practitioner. We here at Sydney Allied Health Clinic take a detailed clinical history in order to work out the tissue in lesion and this then allows us to pick the best set of treatment modalities to help our fellow patients with.
As the patient is progressing in their treatment exercise therapy is prescribed in order to strength the area of concern and to prevent reoccurrence of the ailing injury. If we see that the patient continually injures the joint or area suggestions may be made to alter either the exercise or activity in order to prevent rebound effects in treatment or changing the sport to suit the clients needs better without having the reoccurring injury profile. This is all done with careful evaluation and compassion towards the individuals strengths, desires and wants out of the sport that they choose to embark on and whether they are wanting to do it for recreation or competition.
